Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 October 2026

You do not need a LinuxHospital account to read a troubleshooting guide or follow a distribution's news. This page explains what happens to information when you browse LinuxHospital.com or write to its editors. Evren Elveren operates the publication; privacy enquiries can be sent to [email protected].

Reading a guide

Our server and Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the site, process requests from your browser. Technical records may include an IP address, the page requested, a timestamp, browser details and security events. They help deliver pages, diagnose failures and deal with automated attacks. Cloudflare's performance beacon can also report page-loading measurements.

The popular-guides list uses a separate, approximate read counter. Its database records a total for each article, not a history attached to your name, IP address or a visitor ID. To reduce repeat counts, your browser remembers article IDs and read times for a 30-minute window. Those local entries are pruned on a later article read; the counter request sends the article ID, not that reading list.

What your browser remembers

  • Your light or dark theme choice stays in local storage until you change it or clear the site's data.
  • A session cookie supports the contact form and editorial sign-in. It holds a session reference, not the text of your message. Browser session restoration can keep a session cookie available longer than you expect.
  • Cloudflare may set security cookies to recognise a completed check. Its cookie documentation explains their purposes and lifetimes.

You can inspect, block or remove site data in your browser. Removing it resets saved choices; blocking it can interrupt forms or security checks.

Advertising on LinuxHospital

LinuxHospital uses Google AdSense. Google and other advertising vendors can use cookies or similar technologies to show and measure ads, prevent fraud and, where permitted, personalise advertising using visits to this and other websites. An advertising request can share the page address, IP address and browser information with Google.

Read Google's explanation of data received from partner sites. You can manage personalised Google advertising through My Ad Center; participating vendors also offer choices through YourAdChoices. Turning off personalisation does not necessarily remove ads or the information needed to serve them. Any consent required for optional processing must be obtained before that processing starts.

Writing to us about a Linux problem

The contact form asks for your first and last name, email address and message. We store these with the submission time in a restricted inbox so we can answer, investigate a correction or follow up. A keyed hash of the connecting IP address helps limit repeated submissions. The hash is not the plain address; infrastructure logs may still record that address separately.

A notification tells the administrator that a message arrived without copying its contents into the notification. Contacting us does not enrol you in a newsletter, and we do not sell your correspondence. Before sending a terminal log, remove passwords, private keys, tokens and details about other people. We do not need remote access to your computer to receive a correction.

Access, storage and retention

Authorised administrators and the hosting, email, security and backup services involved in running the publication may handle information for those purposes. Our shared editorial administration does not make your message public. Providers may process data outside your country. External documentation sites, linked services and remotely hosted media have their own privacy practices.

The inbox has no automatic deletion deadline. Correspondence remains available for enquiries, follow-up and disputes until removed. Provider logs follow the provider's retention settings; a restricted backup may outlast deletion from the active inbox. Information may also need to be retained or disclosed to comply with law, investigate abuse or address a legal claim.

Questions and requests

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, operating and protecting the site and answering correspondence involve our legitimate interests, subject to your rights; legal duties and consent may apply to other processing. Depending on your location, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a data-protection authority.

Email the address above with “LinuxHospital privacy” and enough detail to locate your enquiry. We may verify ownership of the information and will explain any lawful limit on a request. Please do not send identification documents unprompted. We respond within applicable legal time limits. A parent or guardian can also ask us to review information submitted by a child; the contact form is not intended to collect children's personal data.

We restrict administrative access and use HTTPS, but cannot promise absolute security. Report a suspected disclosure promptly. When our practices change, we will revise this page and its date.
